Tour Surface Options
All trails aren’t created equally and neither are our tours! Below are some different riding surfaces on Vancouver Island that can be included in your tour.
Paved Roads
There are some excellent, scenic roads to ride along on Vancouver Island. Coastal routes, winding hilly routes and everything in between. We aim to have your tour on as little highway as possible for your safety and a more enjoyable route.
Rail Trails
With lots of rail history on Vancouver Island, there are great sections of rail trail to ride along. There are three great rail trails straight out of Victoria, with more great options further up Vancouver Island. Compacted, crushed gravel, through forested areas, no cars and beautiful scenery.
Gravel Tracks
Get off the beaten track and head off on an adventure by riding along some of the amazing gravel roads that intersperse the Island. head to rural townships accessible only by gravel roads or water. Escape from the busy highways and paved roads and have a truly unique tour.
Double track
A little rougher and bigger rocks than a gravel track, double-track trails are in remote areas where phone service may be limited but are a great way to be fully immersed in the wilderness. These trails are generally logging roads and may have logging trucks driving along them. They are great adventures to push your limits and explore forgotten areas, but make sure you are prepared with mechanical skills and a first aid kit/emergency communication devices.
Singletrack
On these trails, you can expect large rock rollovers, logs, narrower trails, switchback climbs and steep descents. It is recommended you have mountain biking experience and a suitable bike for these trails.
